Setting Goals to Get Fit in 2013

Happy New Year’s Eve! Tomorrow is the first day of 2013, so if you haven’t yet set any fitness goals for the new year, there’s no time like the present. If you lived 2012 like a big fat slob, now is your chance to reinvent yourself as a svelte motivated stud!

How to Make Workout Plans for the New Year… and Actually Stick to Them

1.) Be Specific: Simply making a goal of losing ten pounds is about as useless to your diet as laying on the couch all day with a Big Gulp and a bag of Doritos. Come up with a plan of how you’re going to get in shape, so you don’t get overwhelmed and give up. Setting goals is a great way to figure out what you hope to achieve with your workout plans.

2.) Take Action: There’s nothing holding you back, so no excuses buddy. Devise your workout plans immediately then get to work! Putting off joining the gym* or going for a run until next week isn’t going to get you anywhere but a first class ticket into a pair of BIGGER pants. No one wants that. *On a side note New Year’s Resolutioners, please don’t join my gym if you plan on working out on weekend mornings and between 5-7pm on weekdays. It’s already about 500 people past capacity :).

3.) Set Realistic Goals: Face it, you’re not going to lose five, ten, or twenty pounds during the course of one workout or one week. It takes time and dedication to see results. It can be really difficult to have patience when you’re putting a lot of extra effort into eating healthy and maintaining your workout plans, but you’ve gotta do just that. Instead of getting discouraged, channel your frustration into an even greater motivation to look and feel better than you ever have before!

4.) Plan to Strut Your Stuff: You’ve made it through the process of setting goals and accomplishing your workout plans, so now it’s time to celebrate! Reward yourself for being diligent with your healthy diet and workouts by allowing yourself to buy some new clothes after you’ve reached a certain weight, finally wearing that bikini you’ve been too embarrassed to put on for years, or even taking a tropical beach vacation to strut your fabulous stuff!

Changing an established routine is never easy, but there’s no better time than the start of a new year to ditch old unhealthy habits and work on getting fit and healthy!
