Preparing for a Winter Wedding — How to Keep Your Diet in Check

7 Jan

This past Saturday I married my boyfriend of 3.5 years! Yayyy! When you live in Pittsburgh, a winter wedding is about as common as finding someone not wearing a “Stillers” jersey wandering around “dahntown” on a football Sunday (or let’s face it, any day). Whatever though, at least ours will be much more memorable than the 59 summer weddings our guests will attend over the course of their lives.

Anyways, battling the snow isn’t the only challenge with a January wedding — you also have to deal with the issue of  the plethora of holiday food that surrounds you from Thanksgiving through New Years. Not only is there, it’s good, and it wants you to eat it! Oh boy.

I won’t lie, this was definitely challenging some days, but overall turned out to be totally manageable.

Avoid Gaining Weight for Your Winter Wedding with These Tips

  • Workout Like a Crazy Person: Seriously, go to the gym as much as possible. For me, I could typically only manage to get there five times per week, but would go six days when I could find the time. This is tricky of course, as not only are you a busy bride, but it’s also in the middle of the holiday season. On the plus side, exercising is a great way to relieve the stress that inevitably comes with both of these things.
  • Make Healthy Recipes: My contribution to the office potluck holiday party this year was a big salad with low-fat dressing. I filled the majority of my plate with this, skipping the cookies, brownies and other fatty things I would never eat at lunchtime anyway. I was also pleasantly surprised to be on the receiving end of many compliments, as my co-workers were happy to have something healthy to add to the party!
  • Practice Moderation: The holidays only come once a year, so you shouldn’t deprive yourself of some of your favorite once-a-year foods! You’ll just be a bitter little bridezilla, who ends up in the middle of a midnight cookie binge. Simply limit yourself to a certain number of cookies, skip thirds on the mashed potatoes, and you’ll be just fine.

Basically, I found that if you’re already living a healthy lifestyle, you don’t really need to go one some crazy diet to fit into your wedding gown. I pretty much lived life as normal and felt fantastic on my wedding day!

How to Spot a Crazy Bridezilla

27 Jun

Da da da daaa da da da daaaaaa. You know you recognize that tune. And since we’ve just about made it through the first month of ‘wedding season’ you may have already even heard it a few times this year. There’s no denying it, most weddings are fun. It’s a great time to get together with friends and family members, eat fancy food, enjoy an open bar, and celebrate the beautiful bride and groom. Nothing can ruin a day like this, right? Wrong.

Don't mess with bridezilla.

For reasons unknown to normal members of society, planning a wedding can turn some women into a raging, evil bridezilla. As soon as a diamond is slipped on this woman’s finger, she morphs into a psychotic, self-centered, she-devil of a bridezilla. This woman does not shutup, sleep, or smile until everything for her big day is perfect. As a result, everyone hates bridezilla.

How to Recognize a Raging Bridezilla:

1.) She makes her bridesmaids agree to lose weight for her wedding. And then weighs them.

2.) Bridezilla holds weekly bridesmaid meetings. Attendance is mandatory.  No exceptions. Anyone not present will be thrown out of the wedding party (as if that’s a punishment?)

3.) Planning a wedding is a group effort. Bridezilla ‘reserves’ every Saturday of her mother, sisters, and bridemaids for one year leading up to the wedding. After all, what else could possibly be more important than her wedding?

4.) Bridezilla refers to her wedding as her “special day.” The groom is rarely mentioned.

5.) Bridezilla is obsessed with all of her wedding stationary. She has a special fondness for her thank you notes, even although her wedding day is still six months away. She carries samples of this wedding stationary with her at all times, so strangers can admire her good taste.

6.) Bridesmaid dresses are lime green, spandex and $400.

7.) Money is no object in planning a wedding, even though bridezilla doesn’t have that much of her own. Nothing but the best for this broad.

8.) The wedding ceremony is at noon, but the reception doesn’t start until 6pm. Whatever. It’s her “special day,” so everyone else can just deal with it.

9.) Bridezilla is registered at Tiffany’s, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale’s. The cheapest item on the registry is a $200 crystal fish statue.

10.) Bridezilla gets mad if guests don’t dress up to her standards on her wedding day.

Find a Cheap Wedding Dress at Your Favorite Clothing Stores

21 Jun

A smart bride buys a cheap wedding dress & laughs her way down the aisle.

Every bride wants to look like a million bucks on her wedding day, but not every bride actually has a million bucks to finance this dream. Budget brides everywhere can now get a gorgeous wedding dress without breaking the bank, thanks to some of the most popular women’s clothing stores such as The Limited, J Crew, and Ann Taylor. Many women already have closets stocked full of items from these stores, so why not add your wedding dress to the list as well?

Brides looking for a gorgeous, but cheap wedding dress can shop online at these stores to find the discount wedding gown of their dreams. Prices typically range from around $200 – $3,000 (I know, not cheap). The most inexpensive wedding dresses can usually be found at The Limited, followed by Ann Taylor, with J Crew wedding dresses as the most expensive. The best part about these prices are that they go on sale. That’s right, these cheap wedding dresses can get even cheaper if you watch for a store-wide sale! For example, The Limited pretty frequently has 40% off everything sales. This “everything” includes wedding dresses. You do the math, take an adorable $350 wedding dress, discount it by 40% and then you REALLY have a discount wedding gown.

A beautiful bride can look just as good in a discount wedding gown as an overpriced one.

For those brides with a Costco membership, pick up everything you need for your wedding at this store, including your wedding dress. That’s right, you can even buy a discount wedding gown at Costco. Check with your local store to see if it has a bridal section.

While you’re shopping for a cheap wedding dress, don’t forget about your bridesmaids. No matter how much they like you, no one in their right mind actually enjoys spending $200 for a floor-length, lime green ball gown. These ladies are your friends, your closest friends at that, so why torture your their bank accounts (and souls) like that? If you’re doing the matching bridesmaid dress thing, let them get in on the discount dress plan too, by choosing bridesmaid dresses from one of these stores. Who knows, you might end up with the first bridesmaid in history to actually want to wear her dress again.
